Stirling Council - Steps at Tyndrum Terrace, Crainlarich


Description/ Scope :

Remove and renew external entrance path/ steps which accessed 6no homes.
Burnbrae Contracts Ltd's remit was to remove brickwork, coping and steps, then renew like for like.
This would have caused great concern and inconvenience to the tenants, therefore Burnbrae Contracts Ltd looked for an alternative solution.
We engaged with SIG Exterior division looking for a solution and it was agreed that we would use a product called VULKEM which would allow us to carry out remedial works without the removal of existing structures.
These materials allowed us after initial cleaning and pointing preparation works to apply an epoxy based coat to fill in all apertures to give us a flat and even surface to allow us to apply the finishing coats.
Burnbrae Contracts Ltd where keen to use these materials due to the exposed area and VULKEM being a non-slip material, this would be advantageous in the winter.
This then cut down the labour from 2 working weeks to 3 days, which was obviously cost effective to all parties and more importantly as little as possible disruption to the tenants.

Works Completed by Burnbrae Contracts :

Following our pre-start meeting with the client, the procedures below were agreed as safe working practice -

· removal of existing copes
· removal of damaged and spent brickwork
· removal of top platt
· scrape and clean all surfaces to accept VULKEM material
· reinstatement works of above
· rake out and point all existing brickwork
· apply VULKEM Ready Rep (epoxy based coat)
· apply VULKEM finishing coats as per spec
· clear site
· handover meeting/ sign-off

Burnbrae Contracts Ltd introduced VULKEM products to Stirling Council, we initially arranged for SIG Exterior division to carry out introductory works at Stirling Council offices and following on from a successful introduction we have carried out works to various balcony's, ramps and steps
